What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a regulated primary healthcare profession. Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system (bones, joints, muscles) as well as the effects these disorders can have on general health. They have a specialist interest in neck and back pain, but when they assess patients, they take the entire physical, mental and social wellbeing into account. ( British Chiropractic Association 2015)

Chiropractors use their hands to treat disorders of the bones, joints and muscles. This is why it is called manual therapies.

We use this Complementary and Alternative Therapy for:

· Manual techniques designed to improve the function
of joints and muscles
· Can relieve pain and muscle spasm
· Use of the hands to manipulate joints and ease muscular pain
· Can improve mobility of joints
· Can provide exercise and postural advice

Here at the SANDS Private Health Clinics we take an integrated and holistic approach to your health needs. Your treatment plan will be discussed and the methods and techniques explained.

If you are worried about your health or a family members health contact our team who will be able to advise as to whether Chiropractic will help.

UK Evidence Report By Professor Gert Brontfort

In 2010, the UK evidence report by Professor Gert Bronfort on the ‘Effectiveness of Manual Therapies’ was published. It concluded that spinal manipulation/mobilisation is effective in adults for acute, sub-acute, and chronic low back pain; for Migraine prevention and cervicogenic headache, and a number of upper and lower extremity joint conditions. Thoracic spinal manipulation/mobilisation is effective for acute/sub-acute neck pain, and, when combined with exercise, cervical spinal/manipulation is effective for chronic neck pain.

Official Statement of the World Federation of Chiropractic 1999

“Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. There is an emphasis on manual treatments including spinal manipulation or adjustment”

Modern Acupuncture Therapy/Dry Needling can be incorporated into the chiropractic sessions as it is only performed for pain relief by our Chiropractor.

Taping is frequently used by our chiropractor to compliment the hands-on treatment they use. Taping can help reduce the strain on joints, tendons, ligaments and muscles. Taping can be used to help an injury / condition to recover faster or to reduce the risk of future injury. Our chiropractor can advise you regarding self-taping techniques, so that you can apply tape to the appropriate area before you participate in a sport / activity which we sell here at the clinic.

Ultrasound Therapy

This machine produces high-frequency sound waves which stimulates blood circulation and cell activity, accelerating the healing process. It is used extensively in the treatment of sports injuries such as sprained knee and ankle ligaments. Ultrasound is also used to break-down scar tissue and persistent bruising.

 "The most common therapeutic procedure

performed by Doctors of chiropractic is known as

“spinal manipulation” or the “chiropractic adjustment"

At SANDS Private Health Clinic we are able to refer patients between our practitioners to ensure your health needs are addressed as best as possible.
